Clerk to the Lieutenancy
Canon Paul Denby MBE KStJ JP DL
Paul Joined the Lieutenancy team in November 2007. He was educated at the universities of Manchester and Sheffield and began his working career as an Electronics Engineer before he was ordained into the Church. He served as a Curate, Parish Priest, Diocesan Director of Ordinands, Bishop's Chaplain, Local Ordained Ministry Scheme Officer and finally for last 12 years in the City's Cathedral where he was Sub Dean and had responsibility for Administration, Finance and Liturgy.
Over the years Paul has held many positions of responsibility in the church serving on both local and national committees; he continues to offer service to the Church helping in many of the parishes within the diocese.
In addition to his work in the Church, Paul has given considerable time to the community. Over the years he has been Chair of Governors in three Local Authority Schools, established a Job Creation Scheme for the unemployed in Trafford, worked with the Samaritans and taught at Chetham's School of Music for a total of seven years amongst many other voluntary roles
Paul was appointed as the County Chairman of St John Ambulance in Greater Manchester on 24th June, 2007 after serving as the County Chaplain for 11 years; in 2009, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace and County Chaplain to the Royal British Legion. In 2011 he was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant and the following year as the Chancellor of the Order of St John for England and the Islands and was awarded an MBE in the New Years Honour List in 2013.
