Col. David Kirkwood DL FCIS MIPD
David Kirkwood was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in February 1967. As a professional soldier he served in a variety of staff and command appointments, in the UK, Germany, Far East and Middle East theatres. His last appointment was Garrison Commander Manchester where he was able to provide a wide range of support for the civic community.
David left the Army early in 1997 to become a Project Director for Jarvis Projects, developing Private Finance Initiative projects within the Defence and Educational sectors. He then was made Director of Lansdowne Properties, developing property assets in the UK and France. David was appointed Chief Executive of Broughton House, the Ex Servicemen and Women Care Home in Salford in, January 2008.
David has been a Trustee of a number of charities, a past Chairman of Manchester Sabre, a Governor of Tameside Six Form College, member of the Army Benevolent Fund Committee (Manchester) and President of Tameside Parachute Regiment Association.
Married to Sandra, a Lancashire lass and they have four grown up (but still expensive) children. He remains a keen but indifferent golfer.
David was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant in 1999.
