James W. Maloney Esq. JP DL

Jim MaloneyJim was born in 1938 and was educated at universities of Durham, Leeds and Nottingham. He continued his academic interest and became a university teacher from which he retired some time ago.

Jim has given, and still gives much time to the voluntary sector. He has served as a Councillor on Wigan Borough Council from1980 - 83; he was appointed Justice of the Peace, Wigan Bench in1980 and became Deputy Chairman in 2001 before taking the Chair the following year. In 2003 - 04 Jim became Chairman, Wigan and Leigh Magistrates. In conjunction with the appointments above, Jim was a founding trustee Age Concern Wigan Borough and from 1995 - 99 acted as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and has served as Chairman from1999 until 2010 but remains a member of the Board. From the late 1990s Jim has served as a member of Shevington Parish Council and served as the Chairman from 2005 until 2010.

Jim continues to serve the local Wigan community as a member, Wigan Borough Enterprise (local strategic partnership) and has been a Governor of several primary and secondary schools in the Borough of Wigan and well as a Governor of St John Rigby Sixth Form College from 1980 -1997 and subsequently Chairman from 1993 - 96.

Jim is married to Veronica and was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant in 2005.
